Quorum Technologies Launches the Angstrom™ Grid Confocal System at Microscience 2008

June 5, 2008. Quorum Technologies, a provider of optical microscopy solutions, introduces the Angstrom™ Grid Confocal System. With Angstrom™, Quorum Technologies defines new standards for sensitivity and flexibility in examining fluorescent biological specimens using structured light illumination, offering spectacular resolution, affordability and ease of use. The Angstrom™ Grid Confocal System makes its European debut at Microscience 2008 (Excel, London, June 23-26).

Structured light illumination has been recognized for some time as a promising alternative to the use of laser-based confocal systems, but until now commercial systems have generally not lived up to user expectations. Structured light illumination involves the projection of a grid structure onto the focal plane of the sample. Microscopes on the market have not been designed to project this pattern with high accuracy. What Quorum has done is to optimize the optical system using chromatically correct, improved optics so that the best possible grid projection is obtained. The result is Angstrom™, a self-contained free-standing illuminator that attaches to a video-port of any upright or inverted brightfield or fluorescence microscope.

“The ability to generate high resolution research-grade images without having to use lasers is one of the biggest advantages of the Angstrom™”, said John Arbuckle, President of Quorum Technologies. “We are very excited to bring this new solution to market. Angstrom™ is a true evolution in how fluorescence imaging is done. This system has created its own market niche. Using Angstrom™ also reduces photo-bleaching, making it suitable for both fixed and live cell imaging.”

Quorum will be showing Angstrom™ at the booth of Qioptiq Imaging Solutions (Booth # B3) at Microscience 2008. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own samples.
